What is Jefferson Lab's ACTS program?
The DOE Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (ACTS) program at Jefferson Lab is a four-week summer program for teachers of grades 5 through 8 designed to build teachers' skills in the physical sciences.

What will I do in Jefferson Lab's ACTS program?
The 2009 program (July 6th - July 31st) will include the following components: a course in basic chemistry (50 hours), lectures on current research (20 hours), exploration and creation of physical science classroom activities (40 hours), and completion of a team-based research project under the guidance of Lab staff (50 hours).

Why should I attend ACTS at Jefferson Lab?
All ACTS components address the National Science Education Standards and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
Teachers receive a stipend of $800.00 per week.
The ACTS program at Jefferson Lab is funded by the DOE Office of Science. All new teachers who successfully complete ACTS-2009 are guaranteed an opportunity to participate in future programs in 2010 and 2011.
