Undergraduate Research at Jefferson Lab

Analysis of the Neutron Structure Function from A = 3 Nuclei

Student: Anthony Tropiano

School: Michigan State University

Mentored By: Wally Melnitchouk

Several experiments at Jefferson Lab will use 3He and 3H targets. This study provides a background understanding of the nuclear structure in order to reliably interpret the data from these experiments. Under the weak binding approximation, we analyze the sensitivity of the nuclear structure functions to theoretical inputs. Comparisons with the JLab E03-103 experiment and quasielastic data are made as a consistency check. The results of this study will be used to analyze data from upcoming JLab experiments.
