What is JSAT?

JSAT is an after school program for 5th, 6th and 8th grade science teachers designed to build teachers' skills in the physical sciences, funded by the Jefferson Science Associates Initiatives Fund.

What will I do in JSAT?

The 2024 - 2025 program will include interactive activities to enhance physical science instruction at the middle school level and lectures by Jefferson Lab staff on the applications of science. And, yes, teachers WILL receive class sets of some activities!

2024 - 2025 topics will include matter, energy transfer, force and motion, magnetism and electricity, atomic structure, waves and sound, simple machines, watershed and optics.

When does JSAT take place?

The dates for the 2024 - 2025 program are listed below. Dates for the 2025-2026 program will be listed once they have been determined. Each session typically takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Why should I attend JSAT?

All JSAT components address the National Science Education Standards and the Virginia Standards of Learning.

All teachers who attend at least 80% of the program hours will receive a stipend of $100 at the end of the school year.

All teachers are eligible to receive up to 48 recertification points during the 2024 - 2025 JSAT program.

Eligibility

This program is open to middle school teachers employed full time in public, private, or parochial schools and whose major teaching assignment includes science. U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident Alien status is required.

Please be aware of the time commitment. Missing more than 20% of the program hours will result in the forfeiture of your program eligibility.

Application forms can be completed and submitted online. Completed applications are due September 13th, 2024.
