The Personnel Safety System gives information about the state of the accelerator. There are three different levels:

Restricted Access (green) - Any person with proper training may enter this area.

Controlled Access (yellow) - The accelerator is powered but there is no beam present in this area. A limited number of people following strict safety procedures may enter this area to perform specific tasks or make specific repairs.

Beam Permit (purple) - No one is allowed in this area and a safety sweep has been conducted to confirm that the area has been vacated. All access doors are locked and safety interlocks are engaged. The accelerator is powered and the beam can be turned on at any time. Let's do physics!
